  • Stuff that makes me laugh

    What makes you laugh?

What makes me laugh at times does not make other people laugh.

I wonder what is laughter. Why do people laugh and others don’t?

What then makes me laugh? Here is a list of things that causes me to laugh:

    • The way someone says a particular word.

    • An unexpected reaction to something.

    • When I think about a scene.

J can’t even make a complete list of what causes me to laugh… I’m laughing right now.

You know when you think about how foolish you had been, it makes you laugh.

A woman was talking about how she wee (urinate) on herself while she was drenched in the rain.

Everyone laughed at what she said. What actually made us laugh was that we all related to the story. (You understand what I mean by that ).

When I saw a madman smoking marijuana in a public place. I just glanced at him and forgot about him.

But when the scene of the madman smoking played itself on my mind again, I started laughing.

I repeatedly say to myself, ‘a madman smoking!’

Thus, something so unrelated can make me laugh. That is why I’m an Author and a Poet.

    Still laughing though.

  • My Vomit

    My Vomit

How life writes its own story?
    My vomit –
The ejected matter of my life,
Is been taken by another man!

    Girl vomiting
    My Vomit

    How I wonder within me:
    Vomit a woman several times,
There is always a man somewhere
Ready to gulp her down his throat!

    True to the rumors,
Life grows in her and baby is born.
    Yet, her mama died!
    Thank God for the baby,
Her life would have been empty.

    Several times over,
Have I try to purge her,
    But my weakness fails me.
If life have not written its story,
Who would have claimed the baby?

Can the baby be truly mine?
    …the baby of my vomit,
A baby after a story has ended.
How I wish not that the time is true.
    Hopefully, though …

  • Sarah and Her Kid

    Sarah and Her Kid

    Sarah and Her Kid

    The atmospherics was crying Christmas,
Little children were naked with joy,
Nature was giving out its gentle gifts.
The happy children were dancing around Sarah,
She was tied to a pole waiting.

    Sarah and Nuru, her kid

    Men were discussing Sarah’s meat,
They were happy – Sarah was sad.
Sarah watched as her kid, Nuru was
Galloping with the rest of its kinds.
Being free – being forever young.

    Sarah sad about Christmas

Being free, Nuru had forgotten his fears,
His mama was all fear for him.
This kid of hers could smile his way into trouble.
He was free and freedom was forever a trap!
Nuru was jumping, galloping and dancing with nature,
He was dancing to his mama’s fear.

All play made Nuru as hungry as death.
He galloped to suck on his mama’s breasts,
    All smiles and hunger.
Then he saw his mama crying!
    “Mama, this is but tears?”
“My kid, when the world suddenly –
Is happy thus, it says death is high!”

    Sarah was crying

Nuru’s eyes was on the big breasts.
In that moment – the mouth could say:
I’ll catch the moon and the sun.”
Nuru looked at his mama boldly and said:
“ Whatever is nigh, I shall lick for you, mama!”
“My kid, it’s death, it conquers all.”
“For you mama, I shall lick it,” promised Nuru.

Sarah’s tears was all blood and salt.
“My kid death is invincible – in fury,
Many lives had been lost to its schemes.
It takes forms, my kid – it sets its traps.”
Nuru was confused – Mama was talking riddles.
How could this death conquer mama?

    Nuru wondering about Death

“Nuru be careful and trust not all that you see..”
She had not finished when men came to tie
Her legs and put knife in her neck.
Nuru was looking but trusted not his sight.
Sarah’s blood washed the floor for Christmas dancing.
Nuru was crying while the children were laughing.
All is well that ends well.

  • A Love For Me

    A Love For Me

Now that the day is over,
And men have come back home from work,
Sleep has gone from my eyes.
Many pictures are playing on my mind,
    Many voices;
    Many names;
    Different floating faces.

    In need of love
    A love for me

    Has there ever been love?
Is this feeling not an illusion,
Akin to the closing of the day?
Oh! My heart, why hath thou so forgiven?
    Going back to your vomit,
    Chasing after shadows,
Seeing affection where there is none!

Closing now the page of her life,
Opening an empty page of my life:
    Just cannot wait – I can’t wait.
Out there – there is love for me.
    Someone to call own,
    The bone of my bone.
Someone to write my story with.

  • 7 Songs that we all grow up singing wrongly

Growing in Nigeria, there were some popular rhymes and songs that we all sang. We learnt these songs from our teachers, peers and joined the multitude in singing the wrong lyrics for ages.

Some adults till date do not know the correct lyrics of the song and are still singing the wrong words.

    1. Sandalili Sandalili

Every child who grew up in the 80s and 90s must have sung this song in primary school.

Remember dressing up like a teacher, doctor or farmer during the end of year school party and singing this song with all confidence and pride, not knowing you were saying the wrong words. Actually, the correct lyric is: Standard living, standard living‘.

    1. Jangilova epo motor:

This is another popular rhyme that has been sung wrongly for years. You’re on the swing and singing jangilova epo motor which you probably heard from your older siblings or friends.

You’ve been singing the wrong lyric because you had no idea it was even wrong. The original lyric to this rhyme is: ‘jingle over like a motor ‘.

    1. The most Excellency is Jesus :

This is a very popular Nigerian song sang mostly by Christians. Unknown to them, they have been singing it wrongly.

The original lyric is, ‘The most excellent king is Jesus’.

    1. Osingo singo, praise the Lord :

Sure, you’ve been singing osingo singo praise the Lord since time immemorial. How did we end up singing osingo singo when the right lyric is: ‘O sing my soul and praise the Lord’.

    1. HIP for the hip for the hipopo, hipo hipo for the hipopo

The correct lyric is: ‘HIP for the hip for the hipopo, ‘ PO PO for the hipopo‘.

    6. Old MacDonald had a farm iya iya o

Most people thought they were hearing iya iya o and that’s what they have been singing.

Sorry, you’ve been singing it wrongly as the correct lyric is: ‘Old MacDonald had a farm, E I E IO ’.

    1. With thanksgiving, as we are living, sanctuary, for you

This is another one of the gospel songs that people have invented their own version. The correct lyric is: ‘With thanksgiving, I’ll be a living, sanctuary, for you‘.

Did you know you’ve been singing it all wrongly since time immemorial?

  • My Introduction

I was detached from it all,

    Am I there?

    Thoroughly, it was my introduction!

It was as if I’m seeing a vision

    like a waking dream.

Like an audience in a cinema.

    Am part of it all,

    A flashing pass of events,

    A series of occurrence.

    Feeling like a Zionist,

    When Jerusalem was built!

It was all like a waking dream.

    Was drifting all through,

    Like another person watching over.

    Drifting through till the end.

Then it all faded and ended.

    The pictures floating by,

I wondered when it all happened.

    Her beautiful and alluring face,

    Her angelic touches,

It’s all coming back to me now!

  • Still on the Bees

Sun falls behind my neighbour’s house

    It is dusking.

She comes humming in my garden.

    Kissing the flowers, embracing them.

The dying sun makes her look golden.

Her large eyes are so beautiful.

Her leg bag full of anthers,

    anthers for bee bread.

    She fills herself with nectar,

    nectar for honey,

the queen to be special food!

Job done, she leaps into the air.

    She turns and sees me,

afraid of been trapped, she stings.

It is a sting of death.

her stomach bursts open, she dies.

What a sacrificial offering of life!

She lives her life for others.

    Not minding her luxury,

nor the fact she needs not to fight.

  • Adewumi Yinka

Like a puff of smoke, like an ocean’s wave.
I call upon your names, nobody to answer it.
Life is but a moment, a blink then it is gone.

I will tell you everything, of people that matters. People that care.
I will whisper all to you.

Your passage left a hollow place,
It left a burden of blames.
Your end speak volume of future.

Your end speaks the heart of men,
And a burden of blames on my shoulder.
Your friends are angels till the end!

    Till we meet again,
Till those grasses become green again,
I will save all that matters!

  • Gone forever

    Like a wisp of smoke,

    She was gone.
    Her sun was set,
    Her greens turned brown.

    She was gone.
    Her sun was set,
    Her greens turned brown.

    Olayinka Adumasha,
Gone like a candle in the wind,
Like a flower in the sun,
    Like daylight into night.

    Who will answer that name?
    The smile is gone,
    The beauty is gone.
    The treasure is lost forever.

    Your wedding in February,
    Your plans are gone forever!
    Life is but a dream,
    Nothing but a wave!

    Adieu, my darling friend.
Where will I hear your voice?
Where will I see your face?
    Where are you now?

    I shall tell you everything,
    Every word, every gist,
    When I see you again.
It has been a long day
    Without you my friend!

  • Just the way it is

    Sometimes in life,

    we read various love stories,

    we watch love stories,

    we meet thousands of people,

    in our walk of life.

    Our path crosses various people,

many people enter our circle of life.

    And yet none of them,

not even a single of these people,

not any of those love stories,

touch us; move us nor change us.

And then we read some love stories

and then we watch some love movies,

we found ourselves following them, laughing when they laugh,

    crying when they cry.

And then we meet one person,

and then our path crosses the path of one person,

then one person steps into our circle of life.

They move and touch our life remarkably.

    They change our lives forever.
